Anyone used Bitlocker?

#1 Post by hellosailor » Fri May 02, 2008 7:22 pm

I'm running Vista Ultimate SP1 on a T61p and I'm looking very carefully at installing Bitlocker.

From the notes on the Bitlocker drive prep tool, it SEEMS like this should be a piece of cake. Run the prep tool, and it will create a new drive partition for the system files (which I presume will become C: ?) and then a second partition for everything else, which I rashly assume will become D:, pushing everything up one letter and leaving me painlessly and quickly (ha) with a repartioned drive and all the data bitlocked on the encrypted D: partition.

Yeah, sure, things always go that smoothly.<G>

Has anyone actually done this? Have any comments on how smoothly it really did or didn't go? Did Bitlocker take a hit on the drive performance? Cause defragging problems or any other collateral damage?

What is it exactly?....Sounds like a drive encryptor that you can use on an existing hard drive with data on it?

exact! You can encrypt a HDD with data on it in realtime. When you built the HDD in a other PC you must enter the recoverycode (ca. 40 Digits) to read the data. This cod you can copy to a USB Flash Stick or print it out.
