As I install software, some stuff (DU Meter, CommView, PopTray, such like) goes into the system tray. I work with it a while, and then choose what I want in the tray and what I do not want. I like access to stuff, so I have about 18 things in my XP system tray. My Vista machine is still new, and I have about 15 things there.

Clock, Volume control, Windows Power Icon, HD Protection, AntiVirus, DU Meter, Windows Device Eject, One Note, iPass Extend 360, Access Connections, Sync Centre, PopTray, and Task Manager.

Too Much Stuff.

A security warning (UACs disabled for now) shield
TV Password Manager (red ball with lock)
Treo Hotsync ying-yang icon
Safely Remove hardware (green check thing)
TV message Center (blue envelope) that I'm going to kill
Shock Protection (triangle=and=p)
Access Connections wifi monitor
Network icon, with actiivty enabled
Access Conections wired LAN
UltraNav widget (to be killed)
Power status
Speaker control
Time

And the battery life indicator.

Not that I always need all of it, but for now I'll let it be.
