Vista Business on Older TP's

#1 Post by Peter_Peril » Fri May 23, 2008 12:23 pm

I'm curious to know if anyone is running Vista on any of the older Think Pads... such as my own beloved T30. I was certain that the bus speed and the discreet graphics would make this a no-brainer...emphasis on the No! However TPer's are a resourceful, irreverent group; I'm laying odds that someone's done it and their notebook has lived to tell the tale. If you're that someone--give us the gory details.

When run in Performance mode and Classic mode Vista is fine on my R50p, R51 and R52. Not grindingly slow, sufficiently fast with MS Office apps to make it worthwhile to use Vista on them.

WIth sufficient ram and a 7200 rpm HD I think it will run fine. At least 1.5g ram though. Like mgo says you can tweak the interface sufficently to eliminate the need for high end graphics. My T42 runs Vista Bus SP1 very nicely.

I am happy enough with the performance of Vista Ultimate SP1 on my T42 (2378-FVU w/ 1MB RAM and Hitachi HTS726060M9AT00 7,200 rpm hard drive).

Vista Business w/SP1 running just fine on my X31, 1.5gb RAM, 120gb 5400 rpm HDD.

No pain is a good thing! It's good to hear positive notes on Vista, especially with TP's. I am mildly surprised that the hardware is playing so nicely, especially with the older systems. I'll probably not attempt running Vista Biz on my T30 though since my memory is limited to 1GB courtesy of a failed memory slot. :x
