no mouse, no keyboard and bsod after starting up

#1 Post by ryan00davis » Tue May 27, 2008 11:11 pm

ok, so i have a lenovo x61t running vista 64 and after a reboot, i now have no keybord, no mouse, the touchscreen doesnt work, the tablet doesnt work, and if i plug in a keyboard or mouse, those dont work either. to make things more fun, i get a blue screen of death about 30-60 seconds after it boots up to the desktop.

im dual booting with ubuntu, and everything works fine there, so i know there are no hardware problems. even in safe mode (command prompt, networking and normal) the mouse and keyboard dont work.

complicating things even more (as if they werent complicated enough), there is no cd drive in this computer, so booting the dvd and repairing isnt really a good option (although i may have to go buy one to fix it).

the only thing i can think of as a cause is that i was playing around with trying to get the ps3 controller to work before i tried to reboot, so i was messing with things like libusb but it never installed, so i didnt think it did anything.

anybody have any ideas?

thanks,
Ryan

Boot into safe mode and run last known good configuration or pick a previous restore point in system restore. http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm

the problem is that once i get into safe mode, no input devices work, so i cant do anything except hold down the power key to force it to shut off.

i've just broken down and bought an external disk drive (i really dont get why the externals are so much more expensive than the internals). im going to repair from the vista disk when i get home.

ill post back if that doesn't work.

thanks for the try,
Ryan

ok, things still are not working. i tried running chkdisk and sfc /scannow. i've tried using last known configuration. all with the same result. i rather not have to reformat right before finals (but if i have to do it im definitely abandoning vista after two of these type problems in the last 6 months).

anybody else have any ideas?

thanks,
Ryan
