No Wireless in Win Server 2008

#1 Post by dfumento » Fri May 30, 2008 12:26 pm

I can't get wireless to work when running Windows Server 2008. I can't get the Fn-F5 to work. When it boots up I get an error in tposdsvc.exe which is the hotkey driver. I reinstalled the driver and there are still problems. I also have installed the "hotkey" driver. Any ideas?

Also, when I do an ipconfig/all the wireless does notshow up. I run the Intel ProSet test program and it fails to find the wireless hardware adapter Intel 4965 AGN.

i don't think wireless service is enabled in server. You gotta do that plus other lil things to get servers working as desktops.

The software from Lenovo (sometimes) wont work because of the ver check in most software. Did you install the Vista versions of the drivers since they use the same kernel? They still might not work but if you did already you might just have to live without the Lenovo custom apps. As you know, Server 2008 is not a supported OS on a Thinkpad.

Just for your information, wireless will work in Server, but it needs to be enabled, as other here have mentioned.

By reading some help files and doing a lot of Google-ing I was able to get Wireless to work on my T60 with Server.

My findings are that some things just do not work in Server 2008. That's because it is a -server- and not a "consumer" type operating system.

It took some fiddling around however, and since Server does not work with other programs I wanted to use, I abandoned the project. Vista 64 bit is more suitable for my needs, other than Vista 32 bit. Even Vista 64 bit turned out to be little more than a technical exercise, but it could be a daily OS.

By default, Server will not do many things for security reasons, and the operator must go in and enable the desired services.

Of course, if you want a server with wireless networking, it will do the job when enabled.
