Can't shink vista partition past 5gb of space

#1 Post by lbraasch » Fri Jun 06, 2008 7:09 pm

I'm attempting to shrink the vista volume on my t61p. However, with a 100gb hdd, and ~40gb of free space, the shrink will only allocate 5gb of space. How can I free up more space?

There is probably some file sitting at the 5 GB mark that is preventing the volume from being shrunk any further. Get a proper disk defragmenter and optimizer to pack down all your files as close to the beginning of the drive as possible. Then try shrinking the volume again.

I recommend JKDefrag for the disk layout optimization step.
