Windows does not remember full screen settings.

#1 Post by Turbo1dr » Fri Jun 13, 2008 1:10 pm

I just installed an SXGA+ screen in my T23 ThinkPad. After doing so Windows will not remember that I have them to stretched out to full screen. By this, I mean I have manually stretched them to full screen at each corners....not by the full screen center button. After closing them I can re-open them and they are back small again.

I have re-booted after setting them, I have rebooted even while leaving the program open and nothing will work. Can I modify the registry or something to make it work? It's very annoying.

Vista on my T61 has a poor memory for: Screen display settings, Windows Explorer settings, Briefcase settings, Offline file settings and some other odds and ends. Much as I am trying to make this thing work, Vista is a botched, screwed up mess (YMMV). Everything I reported here has been reported other places by other people. Someone, some forum (maybe even here) said Explorer (the foundation for much of this) is broken beyond repair at this point (unless Microsoft chooses to invest the effort to fix). ... JDH

try this: when you are about to click the X hold the shift key and click X (or was it the CTRL or ALT key :) I forget). Try that or try clicking "File" then "Close".

Granted it should work as you set it (mine does, even the position on the screen for the Window (top right corner for some). Here's a lil note from Brandon Live (works on the explorer shell at Microsoft)
View settings are remembered on a per-folder basis. So if you go to a particular folder, change it to Details and move around the columns, it will be that way when you come back (unless you blow it away with the "Apply To Folders" button on another folder of the same type).

That said, we know that even with SP1 there are some reports of lost view settings, so we are spending additional resources to try and track down any possible corruption bugs that might effect this. So far, there are no known issues or anything found in testing that we can fix (that wasn't already addressed in SP1).

The Microsoft person is not looking very hard because I have opened cases with Microsoft and have the case numbers (SRX1067081025 for the main one). I have come to the conclusion that Microsoft does NOT want to fix the problems. I don't know why, but given that every Windows OS prior worked properly in this regard, it must be entirely trivial for a barely competent, junior programmer to fix it. ... JDH

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried what was said and it eventually remembered the settings.

It has also happened to my desktop computer. I found out that before you close the Window click the center button a couple of times and then hit the red X. That worked but not for the ThinkPad.
