file naming

#1 Post by alfio » Fri Jun 13, 2008 4:33 pm

hi all

i had to digitalize a relatively lengthy scrapbook collection (via digital camera) and, for several reasons, i first had to shoot all the odd pages and then the evens. i've got them separated in two distinct batches and i'm hoping there's a way to number / label them somehow in such a way that would allow me to then re-sort them all in one folder under their correct order.

so, there's the question - any ideas? thanks as always

A program that lets you rename your files in bulk, such as:

The best one that I know, with the most options, is MFR, Magic File Renamer

hi

thanks for your help - i may have missed something but i didn't see anything on the pages you posted about being able to do what i need- i.e. rename some files 2-100+ evens only and others 1-100+ odds only. obviously i'm not complaining here just curious to see if my previous post was clear and/or if i missed that capacity in either of the programs you linked. thanks again

The MFR has quite a comprehensive counting system:
Rename each file in the ODD directory to: (let's say Bookpage-x.page
Count from: (let's say first odd page = 1 = Bookpage-1.txt
increment by 2 (so next page in this directory = 3 = Bookpage-3.txt etc.

Do the same for even pages, start at 2, increment by 2, next page = 4 etc.

Then copy the directories together into a new one: bingo!
What's the problem?
