Dropping network connection???

#1 Post by ozone » Mon Dec 20, 2004 1:11 am

This is kind of weird. I'm trying to synchronize files on my X31 with my existing laptop and I have the two networked at home. I have some utilities that allow me to update either computer to the latest files on either so that everything is cloned. I've done this sort of thing before and I'm sure the really advanced users out there are way more sophisticated than me.

The weird thing is that the network usually recognizes my X31 when I reboot it, but then after a little while, the network says I don't have permission to access the X31. It's even gotten so that I can synchronize one folder, but when I change to a different folder, the network can suddenly no longer recognize my X31 files.

Is this specific to IBMs? Is there some sort of security setting or something? I can't recall this happening to my other home network setups.

I ran into the same problem. It's really annoying.
When you enter the location manually (with the computer's name), it works...

I thought this "network crawler" service or whatever it is called is supposed to take care of that, but I don't find it anymore. Was enabled by default in XP, I believe. Maybe it still is, I will look into this if someone knows more.
