Slow Shutdown

#1 Post by kevinlwu » Sat Dec 25, 2004 3:19 pm

I have a new T42(Win XP Pro), with the stock software(not clean installed) and shutdown seems to be a bit slow. It gets through logging off and saving settings fast but once it gets to "windows is shutting down" it takes 20 seconds to 1min+ to shut down, normally more then 45seconds. I checked that all the ibm software is up to date? any ideas or this is quite norm?

Thanks,
Kevin

This is a common problem, even with desktops.

Some program is not exiting "gracefully" and is hanging up the system.

You might want to check the Event Log to see what seems not to want to give up. Very often the problem is something called "Fast Find", but many pieces of spyware will hold your system open.

Hope this helps.
