Geek-in-Training needs help with Outlook and Emails

#1 Post by julia » Fri Aug 08, 2008 8:29 am

Anyone know how I can install the Outlook in my new Office 2007? I tired and it receives but won't send. Also I used Office Express and Outlook on my T30 and would like to transfer (and consolidate) the emails and contact data?

Is there a better program out there?

Emails are the lifeblood of what I do (writing) and hold all the deals, promises, and info on projects for years. They're almost more important than documents so any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Hi, I don't use Outlook 2007, but I do use Outlook 2003. Do you still have access to your old Outlook where all of your emails and contacts are stored? If so, go into File on the toolbar and click Import/Export and follow the screens to export to a file - .pst and then you will have a screen where you can choose Personal Folders (which is where I am assuming you store all of your saved emails?) make sure you also check to include all subfolders. Then let her rip and I think you can choose where to save the .pst file. After you have this saved, you should then be able to put it on the computer where you have Outlook 2007 and Import this file into Outlook. It should bring in all of your saved emails, calendar and contacts.

As far as not being able to send, which email server are you downloading into Outlook? Some SMTP servers require SSL and authentication, so be sure you have all of those checked properly in the email setup for that account.

Do you see any error message or any kind of information that could tell what the problem is?`
Assuming it's a POP3 account it's posible that you use the wrong SMTP server or the SMTP settings is incorrect. It could be firewall blocking SMTP as well, but more information are needed to be able to give you some useful help. I doubt that the problem is outlook.

I just realized who set up Outlook Express for me last time. It was Earthlink! They spent much time with me on the phone. I will call this weekend and get them to talk me through it. And work with the .pst files too. I greatly appreciate all this great advice. I'll let you know what the Outlook glitch is. Earthlink changes their specs all the time so I'm sure they'll have the solution.

Many thanks.
