Windows in different language

#1 Post by seungsohn » Sun Aug 17, 2008 11:21 pm

Hi there,

Is there a way to have all of MS Windows in a different language? How does one buy a thinkpad with a keyboard and all of windows in a different language?

Thanks!

The simple answer is yes, but I suspect that your question has complexity in it....

The usual method is to purchase it in the country in which the desired language is a primary language!

You really need to tell us more about what it is you want to achieve?!?

Cheers,

Bill B.

My friend wants his whole operating system and keyboard to be in Chinese. We looked into MS Vista Ultimate's language packets, and we found that this would only change some things to a different language. He wants "File", "Edit", "View", the Start Menu, the Control Panel, everything to be in Chinese. He used to have a laptop he purchased overseas that was configured like this, and now we're trying to find one we could get in the US that is the same. Will we get a completely Chineseified laptop if we purchase a Thinkpad from Lenovo's Chinese website and have it shipped to California?

Thank you!

I just tried the Vista Ultimate language packs and they changed system components into the specified language. That includes start menu items, control panel, help, etc. Third party programs stayed in their original language.

if you're good with modifying windows using vlite then you can do it easily. I changed a Vista Business (EN english) to ES (spanish) without having to buy Vista Ultimate.

Here is the complete guide of MUI (Multilingual User Interface):
technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc721887.aspx

On Thinkpads, Vista's default language is English (what is not removable), but when you install/reinstall OS, you can choose only one different language. It is depending where you bought your TP.
After language neutral OS is installed, preinstaller setting up language pack.
