AC 5.0 and 5.2: no reaction to proxy/homepage setup
Hi all,
I got a really annoying problem since upgrading to AC 5.0: both in IE 6.0 and Firefox 3.0 the proxy and homepage settings are not taken over when switching the network profiles. A first attempt based on a statement found here
http://www.thinkpad-forum.de/thinkpad-s ... 3%BCrzt+ab
seemed to look successful. (for those having difficulties to read the German: they have solved a crash-problem while creating new profiles by reducing the size of FF's prefs.js file to a value under 45 kB - there's obviously a bug in AC when it tries to edit that file). I had a similar problem, too, and solved it in this way.
So far, so good. Also the proxy issue seemed to look better then but only for some days. Now its the same again, proxy and homepage settings (did by the way never work with AC 5.0) do still not have any effect on IE and FF.
What's the reason? Has anyone solved or at least experienced a similar problem?
Thanks a lot for any hints...
Best regards,
Carsten
PS: T41p, Win XP Pro SP2, IE 6.0, FF 3.0.1

I have experienced the same problem. No luck in solving it... yet.

Re: Access Connections 5.0: no reaction to proxy/homepage
Not too constructive of a post, but in response to your question, the author of the blog doesn't say that "AC 5 doesn't do anything for Win XP." He simply says that most of the new functionality is directed to Vista users (probably because Vista needs it and XP doesn't). AC's location and adapter switching is still much better (IMO) than XP's inherent functionality, even without the browser homepage switching (which XP alone doesn't support anyway) working in V5.basketb wrote:According to this blog, AC 5 doesn't do anything for Win XP, so why do you use it if it only gives you problems?

Access Connections 5.02 is out now (for both XP and Vista), so you might want to try that.

AC 5.0 and 5.2: no reaction to proxy/homepage settings
Hi,
thanks for your replies - I changed to 5.02 but this particular issue "proxy/homepage" does not seem to have been solved, the settings are still not taken over. Has anyone another idea to that?
Thanks a lot, best regards,
Carsten

I read of problems elsewhere on the forums for 5.02, so I tried 4.52 last wekend. It was slower and dodgier than 4.12 which I had used for some time.
I used the opportunity to roll back to 3.82 (IIRC) which was not only speedier, but I liked the interface appearance. Much faster, laptop happier.
Saving old updates and old versions, wins again.
