New T61p - removing Nortons - which is best ?

#1 Post by southof40 » Tue Aug 26, 2008 6:59 pm

Hi - I've got a new T61p and it's got Nortons pre-installed. I want to get rid of that and I'm wondering the best way to do it.

First I'm not sure the degree to which it is pre-installed. There are certainly icons all over the place and when I restart I get prompted to 'ensure full protection'. I can't find a task/service which seems to belong to Nortons but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I'm not clear whether it's currently running or whether it's waiting for me to agree it should run. Anyone know in what state TP's have Nortons when they're first shipped ?

Second - some threads say use the Nortons removal tool others say use Add/Remove Programmes. Could someone who's done it tell me what's best ? Maybe both ? What order then ?

Appreciate any help.

i use 'add/remove' when i reimage my machines. then i go hunting for 'symantec' folders and delete them. i'm sure some registry stuff is left behind, but it doesn't seem to offend and it doesn't interfere with nod32, so i leave it. i did try the nrt after uninstalling and it didn't do anything that i could detect.

cheers.

First check add/remove programs. If it is not there it probably hasn't been installed yet. If it is still in the systray after a reboot, then use symnrt.

A different and safe method is to use Norton Removal Tool, you´ll get it on Nortons Website.

It completly remove Norton and it´s subtrates from your system.

Kind regards
