custom windows installation CD and I386 question

#1 Post by tadler » Thu Sep 04, 2008 9:51 am

i want to create a clean install xp CD, as instructed in Kyle Farnung's blog: http://kylefarnung.com/index.php/2007/0 ... tom_oem_wi

and i have two questions:
1.
i have a TP X60S, and these instructions are based on the T60. do you think i have something extra or different to do?
2.
the size of my C:I386 folder is 473MB. as this will be the basis for the creation of the CD, i was worried maybe there's something changed in this folder during my past driver updates, installs, uninstalls, etc..
i read somewhere this folder's size is usually above 600MB..

i would appreciate your thoughts . . .
Thanks

This appears to be a typical "slipstream" procedure. It should apply whether it's a T60 or X60 as the main ingredient is the I386 folder.

To answer your second question... the size of your I386 is dependant on the initial install of your x60 as taken from the install CDs. The size difference will only be due to which CDs the i386 came from. In other words, the i386 from a T60 may differ from an X60, or a T41 or X31, for that matter.

The only thing that's recommended is that you give it a go. It will either work or not, so you may as well follow it and see how it turns out. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

thanks.
i'm happy to report i have succeeded with this procedure, i have a great clean-install cd custom made for my laptop with my windows license. i installed it on my x60s and everything works great.
i just wish i knew how to include more drivers in this installation, to have an even faster and easier install.
anyway, this link is very recommended.
