what to do in preinstalled xp os when app ask for win xp cd

hi

i have a preinstalled xp pro.when ever i run the scan reg application its keeps on asking to insert xp pro cd.since mine is a preinstalled xp pro i dont have one what should i do.

I assume this is an IBM ThinkPad you are talking about. It should not do that, and the install is corrupted if it does. It happened to me once, and in a long conversation, that was the outcome. ... JD Hurst

many thanks for the reply.Yes mine is a thinkpad t42 3wj japanese xp pro .Every time i run scanreg it asks for the winxpcd and i have to skip the operation and proceed to the next.Like you said my install may be corrupted.
So what do i do now and how do i repair my installation.i have recovery partition intact and partition magic running and norton antivirus running.

any suggestions please.

I can't imagine an IBM recovery working with existing partitions. I might, but any time I have done it, it resets the whole disk back to the beginning. You might have to back up the other partitions, re-image and then restore the partitions. Some one else may have succeeded in re-imaging and saving the existing partitions.

Another thought is to install or re-install SP2. Download the whole thing (250Mb or so) and try installing it. It sometimes fixes things. I don't hold too much home here though.

usually on the OEM loads there will be a c:\i386 folder that should have all the same files that would be on the cd.
