How to integrate SP1 onto my Vista 64 DVD?

#1 Post by khtse » Sun Sep 14, 2008 2:44 am

I am getting a new harddrive and would like to clean install vista on it instead of cloning. I have DVDs of retail version of Vista, but they are not SP1.

I found serveral post mentioning that it is better to integrate SP1 onto the DVD when installing than to download it through windows update afterwards.

It doesn't seem that there is Vista with SP1 iso to download for free on Microsoft website. I can order from them for something like $15, or download from them if I paid several hundreds and subscribe MSDN. No, I don't want to pay them anymore $$ since I have already bought it. (I am also paranoid those vista iso torrents... who knows what extras are included in them?)

Can someone please tell me how to clean install Vista SP1 with non-SP1 DVD? Thanks a lot!

I downloaded the Vista standalone SP1 service pack for use on my daughter's notebook computer. I believe the link below is where I got it.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone (KB936330)

At least this can be helped: Find a tool that can calculate the MD5 or SHA1 hash of a file. Then calculate the hash of the downloaded .iso file. With the resulting number, do a search (e.g. Google). If you find many hits, you got the genuine image, if not, delete and try again.
The SHA1 is even published at Microsoft itself (i.e. search with /site:microsoft.com), so you can't possibly go wrong.

Its you're call, but if you are so concerned about the integrity of SP1, paying some $$ to get an orignal SP1 integrated install image from Microsoft makes a great deal of sense.

You need to figure out what priorities really are here!

Cheers,

I agree with erik. I have slipstreamed XP before, and I believe it is a great idea. I have not personally tried vlite, but I have heard about it.

Do you HAVE to choose one version to slipstream, or can you slipstream the entire Vista disc with SP1 so you can use it for installing all versions? (Ultimate, Business, Home etc)
