how to modify driver ??

#1 Post by masterus » Sun Sep 14, 2008 5:38 pm

hi
have small problem with BT in my T43.
have installed on it W2k8 Std and cant install BT and IRDA.
can live without IRDA but need have BT.
have download BT Vsta driver from Lenovo website but during instalation script fails.
wanted install driver by right-click mouse menu and select Install but then got info that driver doesnt attend that way of instalation.
so my question is: could anyone tell me how can I edit driver to support installation via right-click :?:
thx for all answers,

Not sure why you need right-click. At any rate, did you read the installation instructions in the README file?
Manual Install

1. Press Fn and F5 keys at the same time to turn on Bluetooth.
2. If Found New Hardware Wizard is opened, click Cancel.
3. Execute Setup.exe
4. If an User Account Control pop-up opens, click Continue.
5. In "Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for ThinkPad Bluetooth
with Enhanced Data Rate Software 6.1.0.4500" window, Click Next.
6. In the "License Agreement" window, read the Licence Agreement
carefully, if you agree, select "I accept the term in the licence
agreement" then click Next.
7. In the Destination Folder window, click Next.
(If you need to change the destination, click Change, select or
enter the destination folder you like, then lick Next.)
8. In the "Ready to Install the Program" window, click Install.
Note: During the installation, do not touch the keyboard, the
TrackPoint, and the mouse.
9. When "InstallShield Wizard Completed" window appears, click
Finish.
10. If you are asked to restart the system, click Yes to restart.

I believe I misread your original post. You are trying to install a Vista driver in Windows 2008 server - correct?

When you downloaded the driver package and ran it, did it unpack the files to your hard drive? If so, I would think you could open Device Manager, go to your bluetooth device and choose update driver. Point to where the bluetooth drivers were installed on the hard drive. They should be in a subfolder of C:\DRIVERS\.

If you cannot even unpack the driver package, try running it on a Vista machine to unpack the drivers, then copy the C:\DRIVERS\ folder to a USB key or CD. Next copy that folder to W2K8. Now go to Device Manager and update the bluetooth driver.

re GomJabbar >yes tried this way..but got error "driver doesnt attend that way of instalation"
so need to know what lines I should edit in driver to force right-click instalation

have you tried the toshiba or broadcom BT stacks?

if those don't work then there's a good chance that internal BT won't work whatsoever on a T43 under 2008.   in that case you'd have to buy an external USB BT adapter like this one from kensington.   i use it with my thinkstation to drive a lenovo BT mouse and can confirm that it works under 2008 x64 and x86.
