how to install xp on x300 without optical drive
hi people, i have x300 without optical drive, just wonder if i could do it via an usb portable hd. Thanks!
Hm, that´s possible, but it´s a bit technical, for instance have a look here. There may be also more straightforward solutions.
Cheers

A few thoughts: I wonder if it´s possible to install XP from a usb HD by unpacking an XP bootable .iso image on this drive provided there are no other files on the usb drive. It may be also necessary to write a script or to change the autorun.inf. And then just set in BIOS booting from an usb drive

I would try to find a USB DVD-ROM, your chances for success will be better. While you can boot from an external HDD, I don't know if it will boot the XP install process. Installing should work fine with a DVD drive, just make sure than when you burn the ISO image (if you are burning a custom XP CD) that you make sure to make the disk bootable. Good Luck!
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

I guess the OP will make sure to make it sure...
Also, make sure to set the BIOS to boot from the usb in this case, i.e. put usb in the first place in boot order (Maybe this isn´t necessary with X300...).
