OE6 Uses Wrong Account For Email Reply

#1 Post by nikki605 » Fri Oct 17, 2008 10:23 pm

I use OE6 for email (yeah, I know there are better options, but my wife is used to it) on my TP and my desktop PC. Right now I am on the road with my T21 and using it to pull down and send email. I've done this dozens of times with no problem from hotel rooms, hot spots, airports, etc.

I have 9 email accounts set up in OE6. Today, for the first time, a new problem suddenly showed up. Normally, when I reply to a received email, it sets up the reply "from" the same email account that it was sent "to." I saw today that trying to reply to some emails still operate normally as I just described, however, when I go to reply to some other emails, the reply window opens with the wrong email address pre-filled in the "from" line! :?

I know I can click on the drop-down arrow on the far right and select the correct "from" email account, but I'm trying to figure out why the default behavior has changed and how to fix it.

I found these few other posts using Google:

Any ideas?

If your wife likes OE, she would definitely also like Mozilla's Thunderbird.
Install it, it will automatically load all your OE accounts, and TB is not half as virus- and error-prone as OE.

I have banned OE from all my computers since 1998!
I used Eudora, then Pegasus, and (once stable) changed to TB without any problems.
My TB happens to have 12 email accounts currently.

Due to the above, I have no advice for that POS OE whatsoever.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

I took a "big swing" at my problem to see if I could fix it after reading this:

 http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/com ... ption.mspx

1. Ran sfc /scannow (no errors reported)
2. Deleted and manually rebuilt all 10 of my email accounts in OE6
3. Compacted all email folders which might fix minor file corruption issues
4. Deleted an old (2004) cleanup.log file
5. Checked for any .dbx files with numbers after the filename (xxx) which may indicate a corrupted file and manually rebuilt those.

I did NOT delete the Folders.dbx file yet. It contains the folder tree structure and deleting it causes a major problem. It still could be corrupt, but I'm not going to delete it except as a last resort.

So far, so good. But I haven't had a lot of test time.

I just thought I would report back that in the one month since my last post and after taking the corrective steps I described, I have not had one single instance of my original problem.

One (maybe more) of those steps fixed it!
