Missing Trackpt device WinXPP

#1 Post by calkeith » Sat Jan 08, 2005 3:02 pm

Filed UNDER: "The epitome of STUPID"

But, while installing a mouseworks software program for a Orbit Trackball on 600E, I inadvertently trashed the resident trackpoint program/driver.

Is there a way to recover it without having to reinstall XP? The only device listed in the Device Manager, now, is the trackball.

Many thanks for any assistance.

Just reinstall the Ultranav or Trackpiont drivers from IBM. I had similar problems with a MS Bluetooth mouse, Now I just use it without the included software. Works mostly fine.

The drivers you can find on the IBM webpage, I don't know the exact location at the moment.

That's what I had anticipated, however, my trackpoint is no longer listed as a device in Device Manager.

How to coax XP into "seeing" the trackpoint? BTW, add new hardware does not list trackpoint either.

Hopefully after a few restarts, it will show up...???

Did you actually reinstall the Ultranav drivers? If memory doesn't fool me, it was the same in my case and after reinstalling it reappeared. Or you might try to roll back the drivers, but I wouldn't recommend that in your case because of other installed software...

Good luck anyways.

in the install/reinstall drivers readme.txt, it instructs to find trackpoint device in sys dev list...which is precisely my problem. The only device listed underpointing devices is the trackball.

I suspect there is an easy explanation/fix, but it ecapes me :(

If you want to know the version, you have to find the device. To install the drivers you don't need to, just run the installer.

Problem solved. Thanks for the assistance.

This time I went on the normal adm user acct>control panel>system>Hardware>pointing devices>trackpoint>update driver.

Track point was listed here and update went smoothly.

Thanks again, KC
