"NTLDR is missing" issue

#1 Post by CatKing » Tue Nov 04, 2008 5:14 pm

Hi all

My T60 refused to boot up into window after a restore from backup image file which was done with Seagate DiscWizard.
It gives an error message that "NTLDR is missing".

Please give your expert advice, thanks.

Dennis

Does your T60 have a recovery partition?

Either your MBR is corrupted, the partitions are corrupted, or the actual file ntldr is missing. Try to repair the MBR first. You'll need another computer and a USB floppy drive.

Hi Harryc,

I seems to have unintall the RR program so when I follow the instruction, it says SafeGuard Easy was not found on this computer. This program did not make any change.

Please give your expert advice.

Thanks

Safeguard easy is an encryption program. Did you encrypt this drive?

Sorry, I don't understand your question. Or should I do the restore again through the backup image file through DiscWizard?

Thanks

Corrupted MBR can be repaired using the WinXP install CD.

- insert WinXP CD
- poweron/reboot laptop
- press the "Access IBM"/"ThinkVantage", etc. button
- press F12 to choose boot device
- select CD/DVD drive
- when proppted in the time of booting, press the key to begin installation
- after the installer loads, select the recovery console by pressing R
- select you windows instance (usually just by typing number 1)
- in the command prompt perform the command fixmbr
- exit (laptop will reboot)

If the problem was caused by MBR, it should boot up now into the Windows without any problems.
