Vista 64 Bit - Scanner Recommendations

#1 Post by Harryc » Tue Nov 25, 2008 4:52 am

It seems I have finally come to the end of the road with my scanner (Epson 1660 Photo) because Epson does not have 64-bit Vista drivers for it. So, I am looking for recommendations for scanners that have 64-bit Vista drivers. I have fairly simple needs from a scanner. Occasional color photo copies and mostly B&W text copy from 8.5x11 sheets. Must be USB 2.0
Thanks

I have had great luck with Canon, and AFAIK the current ones all have Vista 64 drivers. I'm running one with Vista 64 right now.

My experience has mainly been with the multi-function machines (MP/MX). I find them a notch up in quality to HP and Epson (both of which I also have experience with). However like HP and Epson, the software they provide is quirky.

Thanks for the reply. I have my eye on the Epson Perfection V300 or V350. Anyone with experience using those?

The 350 works just fine under Vista 64. Nowadays I wouldn't buy it again for two reasons:
1. Its rather bulky (partly due to its built in film stripe adapter, but probably mostly due to its light source).
2. It needs warm-up time (again due to its light source).
Today I would go for a LED scanner (such as Canon LIDE, but I read that there are Epson models as well).
Regards, Martin
