Windows Remote Desktop & UltraNav Scroll

#1 Post by K. Eng » Fri Jun 04, 2004 7:44 pm

Has anyone gotten the scroll key to work with Windows Remote Desktop? When I'm rlog'd into my desktop system everything works fine, except I can't use the blue scroll key at all (the scroll icon with the pointer shows up, but nothing will scroll).

I suspect that the scroll key is trying to scroll the window on my T40's desktop that contains the rlogin desktop.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

I've tried to and it won't work. It seems that the scroll hook (since it's a multikey combination translated by the local driver) doesn't get passed to the remote desktop.

I have an interesting update. I plugged in my Microsoft Optical Mouse into my T40 to see if the scroll wheel would work in remote desktop, and amazingly enough the scroll wheel does work.

I am sure IBM could support scrolling in remote desktop with the UltraNAV drivers - I am just unsure of how to "request" this feature.

Anyone know how to contact IBM about this? I could call tech support but I don't know how useful that would be. Hopefully someone from IBM reads these forums :)

I think the regular scrolling mouses use a standard driver call, but the UltraNav scroll button uses a specific one. In this situation using the attached mouse, the transmited scroll hook is understood on the remote computer because the same generic driver is installed there.

I've noticed a similar problem with iTunes and scrolling, so my guess iTunes is using the same APIs from the generic driver and can't understand the UltraNav drivers.

Odd, for sure.
