Wireless connection local only, no internet
Wireless connection local only, no internet
I am using VIsta Business. When I tried to connect with my home secure wireless, everything seemed to go fine. I noticed the first time though that the tray on the lower right that holds the wireless icon, instead of saying Beach Club (our name), it said Beach Club 2. I didn't pay much attention because it worked.
This weekend though, it linked up as Beach Club, showed a connection to Beach Club but it said Access: Local. My wife has Vista Home and hers says Access: Local and Internet. For some reason, my connection suddenly converted over to Beach Club 2 and then said Access: Local and Internet.
Problem is that the connection is very random. Sometimes when I boot up, it connects as Beach Club w local only, and sometimes converts over to Beach Club2 w local & internet. Obviously, with local only, I can't connect to the internet.
I don't understand this at all. What's going on??
How can I resolve this problem. It's a pain not being able to link up each time I log on.
Thanks.
Frank

Control Panel (Classic View) -> Power Options -> Select power plan (there you usually find 3 power plans listed, for example Maximum Performance, Power Saver, High performance, one of the three is checked) -> Change plan settings (under the checked power plan) -> Change advanced power settings -> Wireless adapter settingsfjs08 wrote:Where would I find that in Vista??
Hope this helps
A side note: My connection tray icon in Vista - similarly to your case - occasionally happens to be incorrectly displayed without the net globe between the both monitors (meaning only local network) and even claiming only local access. Nevertheless I still have internet connection, so I guess it´s some sort of Vista bug. That said, you may want to check out if you still have internet connection (for example by opening a browser) even though Vista says only local

Mine is set at Max Performance.

When I right click on the wireless icon in the tray and click
Network & Sharing Center, I get a dialog box with my computer a line, my secure network, a line and then Internet Globe. When it says Local only, there is an X between my wireless name and the internet globe.
>>Also, from what you describe, it seems that you have two
connection profiles, so you may want to delete them both and create a new one <<
I thought that too, but I find only one. The only way I can reconnect to the web is to delete the existing network, then select it again as an option under Select Network, and then reenter the code... Strange, but that works. Strange it just doesn't pick it out automatically.
Thanks.

Did you try out browsing the net while on "local" network?

Also, I forgot to ask, do you use Access Connections?
