My Windows Vista upgrade now doesnt work?

#1 Post by i-SnipeZ » Sun Nov 30, 2008 6:42 pm

Okay my friend has a problem. He uninstalled Vista in which he had upgraded from Windows XP. He then put back on XP, stayed w/ it for a couple months. Then tried to upgrade back to Vista. His upgrade activation will not work because even though hes using the same code for XP and then the same code that worked for Vista. It has already been upgraded thus the code is appearantly useless. Is there any way he can get around this? Do any of you have an extra code lieing around (he says Basic is fine (upgrade or complete) he just needs vista for school).

In this case, probably the best thing to do is call Microsoft and ask for licensing help. They will probably re-activate your friend. ... JDH

This happen a lot. I reinstalled vista on one machine over the summer. I did not use the DVD that shipped with the machine, just a generic install DVD, but it accepted the OEM product key, but it was not able to activate over the internet. I had to call the Microsoft line to get an activation code. If you have a legit product key, you should have no trouble getting an activation code over the phone.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.
