USB sound card and volumn control key

#1 Post by oversky » Sat Jan 15, 2005 12:03 pm

I just bought a M-audio Transit. This is an external sound card through USB. This little baby sounds great. However, I found the volumn control key is not functional. The mute key is working. Any suggestion?

Have you tried changing: control panel/sounds & audio/audio/sound playback/default audio device? Not that I know this will work, since I haven't tried a USB audio card. Worth a try, if not. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work, though, since the volume control button is linked such a different piece of hardware (USB vs mini-pci or whatever it is).

Yes, the default audio device is alreday set to Transit.
Something I found very interesting. The volumn control key seems to be indepent from the windows audio mixer.

You might get more help posting in a relevant newsgroup like rec.audio.pro or the comp.sys.laptops. Heck, ask M-Audio (or IBM?). I'd be curious if you find a solution 'cause I might get a USB soundcard & it'd be convenient to be able to use the volume button. Found one post in rec.audio.pro slightly related:

"Unfortunately, the volume controls in some audio apps, and the
keyboard button volume controls on both my notebooks, seem to get
really confused by having both internal and USB audio connected.

In case someone hasn't noticed, you can get to the Windows Volume
Controls for the built-in sound device even while the Transit is
connected and its controls are the default. Go to Volume Control ->
Options -> Properties -> Mixer device: and select the other device."
