IBM ThinkPad 600E Windows XP, AOL 9.0, Modem Internal Error

Hello,

I could really use help from some of you experts out there. I've recently been given the gift of an IBM ThinkPad 600E. I think it's really a neat little michine. But I'm having problems with a modem error I keep getting.

I installed Windows XP on my new ThinkPad. It runs great, it seems to be fully compatible. Then I installed AOL 9.0 on it, I went through the whole setup like a champ. I'm online with no problems and the online experience shows no gliches in the system.

When I signoff the problem begins. AOL 9.0 upgrades at signoff. When it completes it's upgrade it automatically restarts the computer. After rebooting I can't get online again.

I get an error reading, "Modem Internal Error, Primary Codec 5(0x0005), Secondary Codec 105(0x0069), File:MWMWIN.C, Line:4426. Once this happens the only thing I can do to get back online is reinstall the operating system and reinstall the AOL program.

I've also tried installing different versions of AOL, but that doesn't work either. I've seen a lot of different articles about this particular modem error, but I'd like to know of someone who has actually fixed this problem.

Nothing I do works. I'm in desperation of stoping this madness. Please help me.

This is a known issue with AOL. Even AOL 8.0 had this problem. No solution though. I've never used AOL, but can you use IE or some other browser? You have your username and password so I guess you can.

Call the IBM PC Helpcenter, they used to have a fix \patch for the modem internal error.
