Re: Vista on new build ???
If I was you, I would stay with XP for now and wait for Win 7 or if you like beta-testing, you may want to install the latest beta

Not sure whether you are open to non-MS OSes, but I'd recommend Linux.JimmyD wrote:I'm in the process of building a new upgraded desktop, maybe Vista ???? Any suggestion's ??

I think I was so excited by Win 7 that I almost forgot about Linuxbasketb wrote: Not sure whether you are open to non-MS OSes, but I'd recommend Linux.

Re: Vista on new build ???
JimmyD - it depends on what you want to know about your computer and its OS. Skipping Vista to wait for Windows 7 puts off the learning experience. Windows 7 is being built on Vista, so that the learning curve from XP to 7 will be steeper than from Vista to 7. I have now been a year with Vista 64-bit (nearly 5 months as a daily driver), and I am happy with the learning. Even happier to have beaten the living daylights out of Vista and making it work on my terms. .... JDH
Re: Vista on new build ???
True, but I maybe in 2-3 months Win 7 will be mature enough to be installed as primary OS for most "home-class" users while these Vista licenses are not really for free...jdhurst wrote:JimmyD - it depends on what you want to know about your computer and its OS. Re: Vista on new build ???
Windows 7 Beta is ok, but remember that it expires in August. Because of this, I would not recommend it for a primary system at this point. It is fine for dual boot or as a secondary system.
I think Vista is fine, but things do work differently than in XP or W2K. I do not recommend Vista on a older computer. I installed Vista Ultimate as dual boot on my 2378-FVU T42, and although it runs, it is a bit sluggish.
I like Linux, but it seems like too much of a moving target for me. Many distros have new releases every six months. This is fine for hobbyists and enthusiasts, but these new releases often break a working system - until you figure out the workarounds or the bugs are quashed.

Re: Vista on new build ???
First, thank's to all for your input's! I'm leaning toward a dual-boot, XP/Vista. I've used Vista on a few laptop's and after a little exposure, I kinda liked it ! I've never gotten comfortable with Linux, probably didn't give it fair try ?
So thank's and I'll give you an update as time goes by. JimD
Well, I'm dual booting Ultimate & XPP and it's doing ok. I haven't got it online yet but will soon.JimD.
