Can I use HSDPA MC8775 in Vista W/out Access Connections?
Can I use HSDPA MC8775 in Vista W/out Access Connections? I would really prefer not to install Access Connection as I think i don't need that anymore. BUT, can I use the embedded HSDPA module without it? I don't know how to connect within Vista - is it even possible?! Are there any alternatives to AC to be able to use my HSDPA MC8775?

Try the Sierra Wireless 3G Watcher.

I may be wrong, but I believe that Windows Update in Vista will find the driver for the MC8775 device if the device is turned on and you have an active internet connection - either LAN or WLAN. Once the driver is installed, I think the card is automatically connected if the card is turned on and you are in your carrier's coverage area. Since I have a Sierra Wireless PCMCIA 860 AirCard and not the internal card, my experience might not apply.

3G watcher works like a charm. I don't see a need to install AC anymore. The system is so much snappier now!
Thanks

I'm note sure which version of Watcher this links to, but if you are using Vista version 3.1.0.6.1986 (or later) is definitely easier to get up and running than the earlier releases.GomJabbar wrote:Try the Sierra Wireless 3G Watcher.

To find the most recent Watcher you often need to dig around on the Sierra support pages... look in the "Other" telco listing for the more recent 3G products (such as the 885 etc).
