Windows XP welcome screen showing longer & delays boot t
My WinXP welcome screen is showing longer than normal and is delaying my boot time by a couple of seconds. Anyone care let me know whats wrong with it?

You've probably got a few unnecessary services running at boot-up. Try running MSCONFIG and you can weed out a few of the useless things that start at boot. Also a spyware-scan in case some nasties have got in behind your firewall/anti-virus - they can slow things up too.

Having said this, 2 minutes is not that long - but it could be better.

I think it's ok, maybe not optimum but still ok. It could probably be improved with the suggestions mentioned on the page linked below, read the entire page. Note what he says about msconfig.tbu3 wrote:... is it ok for my thinkpad to have a boot time of about 2 minutes? ...

Also, as mentioned by Ian, scanning for malware is a great idea. Do a Google for free malware utilities like Spybot S&D and Ad-aware.

My boot time is about 35 seconds without the wireless cardbus card plugged in and 50 seconds to a minute when its plugged in. Cait wait to see if 1GB RAM will make a difference.
