windows 2000/ canon bj200e

#1 Post by ckaufman » Mon Jan 24, 2005 6:26 pm

I just connected an old canon bj200e printer to my
770. Its OS is windows 2000. It
prints, but it prints nonsense. For
example 'dir > lpt1' or 'dir > lpt1:'
makes the printer print, but line after line of
meaningless characters.
The printer's power-on-self-test works
as it's supposed to.
Any advice to make it print as it should?

Check the LPT1 port settings in the Configuration Utility.

Sounds like it's set for EPP when it needs ECP or vice versa.

You guys dug out in Kingston yet?

Thanks James. I'll try, and report the results.
It's over two feet deep stilll but the roads are
usable. It's amazing how well they clean them.
It's hardest on the dogs. No place to um...,
you know.

Yep, it's fun to watch my son's ~12" high Jack Russel negotiate the drifts from our "mere" 14" snowfall as she seeks to perform her toilette.

So, of course, Grandpa (your's truly) had to stamp out an area suitable for her ladyship's use.

She doesn't mind the snow that much as it has appreciably slowed the squirrels and other varmints to the point where it's hardly sporting for her anymore.

They certainly do an excellent job on the roads up there. We visited my daughter at URI and left to take my son to visit UVM and UMass Amherst during a severe storm in '99 and, while both schools had cancelled classes, we had no problems whatsoever on the roads.

Let us know how you make out with the printer port.

James

I thought getting the configuration utility
would be easy-but it's currently 10 MB or so
and I'm on the phone. It seems
excessive for such a minor change.
Is there any way to do it with PS2
(if that's the correct name) in dos?

Well it's snowing again. 1 to 3"
predicted and we've already had
4. My snow blower gave up on Monday
but the repair shop called this am
to say it's fixed. Of course I can't
get out of the driveway until I go
get it. It's sort of like some
computer problems.
How's your high-flying daughter, James?

Yes, but IIRC the DOS utility can be over-written by the CU! Better off using the OS configuration utility.

Still flying high, in more ways than one, as she prepares for her 10DEC wedding in Key West.

She's taking a year off from competition as she and her betrothed house-hunt in Tulsa.

Thanks for asking.

I installed the configuration utility
and tried to reset the parallel port.
It has been bidirectional. When I
try to change it to any of the other
three choices it refuses, saying
there is a conflict with the pci bus.
It suggests I free up resources in
device manager. I am reluctant but
even after I screw up my courage and try,
device manager does not allow me to
change the pci resources-all options are
greyed-out. Next?
