Error PAGE_FAULT-IN_NONPAGED_AREA

#1 Post by Brad » Sat Feb 28, 2009 9:45 pm

XP MCE - Acer laptop

I receive the above BSOD after the desktop appears and before the icons show.

The stop error is 0X00000050 with several others following.

After this error some sort of checkdisk runs on the next startup. I say some sort of checkdisk because this is an Italian version of Windows.

Safe mode works. Takes more time then normal though to reach the desktop.

I have tried the following with no change.

Replaced the memory.
Hitachi DFT on the installed Hitachi drive. Advanced mode found no errors.
Ran checkdisk which appeared to find errors. FS is FAT32.
Uninstalled Netgear USB Wireless software.
Tried removing some items with MSCONFIG.
Checked the event log. There are a couple of recent errors. I can't determine what caused them due to the language barrier. They don't seem consistant with all the times I have attemped to start the computer.
Searched high and low on the internet.

I can do an in place upgrade. I am not sure if XP MCE will upgrade with XP Pro which is the only OEM disk I have.

Any and all thoughts and recommendations are appreciated.

I was doing a search on PAGE_FAULT-IN_NONPAGED_AREA and came across a Gateway support document that says eTrust EZ Armor can cause this error on a Gateway computer. I did a search on eTrust EZ Armor and found a page from PCWorld. When I went to that page, my AV software said that page has a virus!

a virus or unwanted program 'HTML/Crypted.Gen' [virus] was found.
Action taken: Blocked file
One user suggests the following for that error.
1. remove the pagefile, set it at zero
2. reboot
3. run a disk error-checker; auto-fix disk errors enabled (probably makes you re-boot to complete)
4. re-create page file

if that doesnt work you either got a corrupted driver (re-install), or a faulty sim.
You can look over this search at Microsoft Help and Support. I see the first couple in the list are caused by viruses.

Also, I would check out what programs start as services. If it´s only windows services, maybe it´s possible to repair the XP MCE installation using the installation media (I assume that´s possible since it´s possible with XP Pro).

Here is one other one that I found. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/183169
Microsoft wrote:These errors may be caused by one or more of the following:

* Hardware failure (memory, processor, or motherboard).
* Anti-virus software that is running on your computer.
* Drivers installed by third-party software.

Thanks for all your responses.

I am cloning the drive now to work a few routines on the cloned drive since there is no backup.

If I had a copy of the Italian XP I would have run the inplace upgrade.

There also is a second partition that takes up about 30gb of a 80gb drive. I may be able to do something with that on the cloned drive.

Thanks again,
