I've poked around, but can't find the setting that will allow me to extend the times before the computer requires me to log back on with a password.
It seems that if I don't fool with my T61 for 15 minutes, I have to log back on. I'd like to just tap the space bar and have the thing wake up to the actual desktop.
Is it possible to change this (surely!), and how?

You can increase the duration it takes the computer to go into standby.
Or you can just disable the need to input a password when returning from standby. All is done via the power management settings.

If you are using XP then go to Control Panel then Power Options and you'll find under Advanced that you are able to stop being asked for a password.

Rightclick anywhere on the desktop, and select Properties. In there, click on Screen Saver tab and change the "Wait time", and UNtick if you don't want to use a password.
