600X / 2645-4EU / W98SE / PQ Partition Magic 6.0 / won't...

#1 Post by danparkcityut » Sun Jun 06, 2004 3:07 pm

Hope I have the right forum here, as I guess this is a software issue. I'm trying to create a small logical partition on the C: drive, but Partition Magic seems to think the hard drive isn't running FAT 32 (which it is).

I'll be doing some diagnostics to further track this down (and I'll post the results, along with more details, here). Meanwhile, any one have a little experience with this problem?

Thanks!

Dan

there is also acronis true image server that is a good replacement for ghost and ImageUltra! I think

Hey thanks for the advice risolutore, their site looks pretty promising for my next similar purchase. I already have PM 6.0, though, so don't really want to part with more $ (at least on that topic) until it's really necessary... and that might be pretty soon, since symantec bought PQ and they don't even support 6.0 any more. I must admit, I haven't been too impressed with any operation after symantec has bought them out.

Meanwhile, however, the deed is done. Took a while for scandisk (thourough), but it did find (and repair) 3 disk errors. That must have been the fiix, as I now have that small partition to ghost to before I start messing with the software (etc.) on this machine. OOOOOPs, symantec again, dangit, but, well, I already have ghost 2002, and I'm still tight as the paper on the wall...

Well, I guess the bottom line is I bought this thinkpad used on ebay so I could start my laptop educatiion. That part (the education) is already in full swing. Meanwhile, I guess I should have known to run scandisk on any used system

Paragon partition manager is also a good friend, also BootIt NG that let yopu create a bootable rescue cd with their boot manager and partition manager...

I have same tp600x 2645 4EU and same partition magic 6.0

PM is wonderful software. I had no trouble till date. I have loaded WIN98, WIN2000PRO, WINXP all on one harddisk. I have reduced, enlarged the partiions umpteen times without an hitch whatsoever.

I have used norton ghost as the backup for safety purpose.

at present I have DOS 6.22 and WIN98 on my system.
