What does Lenovo restore utility backs up ?

#1 Post by elvair » Fri May 08, 2009 10:57 am

What exactly does Lenovo think vantage restory utility do when back up takes place ?

Here is what I've done, I did clean factory restory on my machine, immidiatelly created a back up copy. According to think vantage , backup file is approximatelly 8,5 GB, then I put all possible Windows updates on top of it, and did another back up. Then using lenovo restore came back to previous point.

As a result the system told me that

1) A number of applications need to be installed manually and cannot be restored. I presume that these are the updates which I did to Windows. Which doesnt make much of sense, because if I am coming back to previos point, I want to have all the previos configuration and I do not want any of new things which came to the system. This all looks kinda nonsense to me.

2) When I came back to the original configuration IE just stopped working all together. It gives me some error, then prompts for Microsoft troubleshooting and then program closes. Which is also a bit of a nonsense. In effect restoring to previous point killed one of the vital programm on my hard drive, which is exactly what restore system supposed to be solving.

Could someone provide some insight whether I'm doing something wrong here? And what is the exact mechincs of Lenovo restore system?

Many thanks!
