Vista SP2 BSODs when running in AHCI mode

#1 Post by ZaZ » Thu May 14, 2009 11:34 pm

I decided to give SP2 a try on my R60. Everything seems fairly normal, but I noticed if I switched to AHCI mode in the BIOS, I get BSODed when booting. I never had this problem with SP1 or just plain old Vista. Anyone want to take a gander as to why? The machine runs fine in compatibility mode.

You must tell Windows to load ACHI driver at boot, it doesn't so by default if it didn't have one enabled at install. Google for it, it's a known problem.

Quick explanation of the problem:

You may need to install the Intel Matrix Storage Driver:

Oddly enough I just did a clean install of Vista 64 with SP2 slipstreamed on my T500 and had the opposite problem - it BSODed when I disabled AHCI! Can't say I care enough to figure out why since I only disabled ACHI to run HDD erase on my SSD
