Fun & games with iTunes and QuickTime

#1 Post by killer » Tue Jun 02, 2009 1:35 pm

Today a message appeared telling me that new versions of iTunes and QuickTime were available. I downloaded them and they installed. All well so far.

Then, after the obligatory restart. my machine told me that there was a problem with the fingerprint reader. I used Ctl. Alt, Delete and entered my password. I went to Control Panel and repaired the fingerprint software. After a restart it worked as normal.

Next I tried to delete the 'About iTunes' option from the list of programs by right clicking ... at which point a message appeared telling me the System Migration Assistant was starting. I had to reinstall SMA using System Update and then I could delete the 'About iTunes' option normally.

The reason I have posted all this is that others may have the same, or a similar, set of problems. I assume it is caused by the Apple stuff as everything was fine until that was updated.

Which should teach you a lesson: DON'T get any Apple junk like iTunes or Quicktime!
Look for e.g. an iRiver MP3-player, which has superior sound, and a lot easier handling.
Who needs QT? There are (literally) alternative QTs around...

The fact is I own an iPod and it works well. However, it has reminded me of the lesson about 'if it ain't broke ...'. That's the last time I update their software unless there is a problem. :x
