WinXP Pro installs the wrong Ethernet driver [SOLVED]
WinXP Pro installs the wrong Ethernet driver [SOLVED]
I'm cross-posting this here - I also posted it in the T-series forum. Not sure which is more appropriate. I'll delete one or the other if the issue is solved. Here goes.
I installed a fresh copy of WinXP Pro on my T43 from a non-IBM disk. It installed the wrong Ethernet Adapter - "AMD PCNET Family PCI Ethernet Adapter" instead of the Broadcom adapter.
I downloaded the proper adapter from the Lenovo site and ran the .exe file, but it didn't replace the AMD with the Broadcom. I have a feeling this is a stupid question with a simple answer, but... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: WinXP Pro installs the wrong Ethernet adapter driver
Running the .exe file extracts the setup program and drivers to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET. Navigate to that directory and run the setup. (You may have to uninstall the incorrect dirver first).
I used to be an anarchist but I quit because there were too many rules
Re: WinXP Pro installs the wrong Ethernet adapter driver
Thanks. I tried that (uninstalled the old driver, ran the .exe in Windows\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET\TOOLS\DRVINST\IA32. It ran the Broadcom installer which completed successfully, but when I rebooted the AMD driver was reinstalled. So - still not connected.

That is not allowed at forum.thinkpads.com. Make your best choice and post to that forum.runbei wrote:I'm cross-posting this here
Your other thread has been removed (there were no replies).
these are the RULES of this ROAD - READ ME NOW2. Post in the right forum! If it's about the X Series, post it in the X Series forum. Even if it's only humor, an observation, or angst, if it's about something that we have a forum for, post it there. Don't cross-post messages into multiple forums unless you have prior approval from an admin.

Re: WinXP Pro installs the wrong Ethernet adapter driver
Thanks for the heads-up regarding etiquette. I won't do it again.
The "problem" is that I'm running WinXP Pro under VirtualBox 3 in Linux Mint 7 (Gloria). So the VM uses a virtual driver, not one that's installed by Windows. Still not working, but it's now an issue for the VirtualBox forum. Thanks for being there, though.
