Windows XP SP2

#1 Post by tbu3 » Sun Feb 06, 2005 9:29 am

Are there any issues in installing service pack 2 in my windows xp home edition for an R51? What are the benefits I get just in case I decide to install it?

Can't speak for R51 as I don't have one. The SP2 upgrade worked fine for many T series users.

SP2 provides better security and has tons of bug fixes:

To me the biggest advantage is vastly improved Wireless LAN configuration panel. I have all the security center / windows firewall disabled.

I installed SP2 on my T40 with no problems. I installed it mainly for the security fixes.

I have upgraded to SP2 on both a T30 and T22 with no issues. Yes, the wireless is easier...I have all firewalls enabled and it still connects right up for the most part.

It seems to me that the issues only arise and affect those who don't update their current software prior to installing SP2, not the computer type or model.

Can you, or should you, install SP2 using Safe Mode?
Other than having all drivers and BIOS updated, and nothing running, are there other tips BEFORE installing SP2?

I don't know if you can or should do it safe mode but I wouldn't. Aside from the drivers and bios being up-to-date, you should also do the same for all software installed, whether you use or not.

I have installed SP2 on R51, there are no issues, a little tip: don't use Windows to configure the w-lan, use IBM Access Connections instead, it is better implemented in the profiling system of IBM Access Connections, but it does not depend on it.
