Print Spooler prevents suspend and hibernation

#1 Post by fasterbybike » Wed Sep 02, 2009 4:20 am

As stated in the title. And, no I don't want to turn the service off, or print direct to the printer :P

Up until a couple of years ago, this used to work (i.e. I could print to the spooler while offline, Fn F4 to suspend and them when next online to the printer the document would print) but a windows update or reinstall somewhere along the line broke it.

What do others do ?

A solution that's worked at least twice:

Thanks for the link but umm .... that's not the fix I'm after.

I want my machine to be able to spool documents (which are the files in the Windows\System32\spool\printers directory), and be able to suspend/hibernate when I close the lid (or press Fn F4/F12).

Having to delete files from the spooler directory, which btw kills the print job, is not a solution.

Does no one else have this problem ?

From reading that link, that is the way (apparently) to get it going again.
It's a one-off action, not one for every time!

RBS's interpretation is also the way I read it.

Have you actually tried it :) ?

I did try it - and no - it does not work. The SHD and SPL files are the print jobs waiting to be printed when the printer comes back online.
Still looking for a solution
