question about windows unzip utility

#1 Post by nikemen » Tue Feb 22, 2005 6:10 pm

So, I think I did a bad thing
I installed WINRAR to unRAR some files,

then, I unistalled it since I didn't like that it took over some menu items

when that was done, it seems that most of my zip files, don't show an icon anymore, but they do seem to be zip files, meaning windows opens up the EXTRACT all modal boxes as usual.

And, in the file system, they are listed as RAR files.

What is the best way to change this back, and get the icon back?

thanks
n

Go to START - RUN
TYPE:
REGSVR32 ZIPFLDR.DLL

If that does not help, a registry edit is required. Open Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ZIP]

In the right-pane, double-click (default) and set it's data to CompressedFolder

Close Registry Editor and restart Windows for the changes to take effect.
