Installing a new version of windows

#1 Post by jodo2017 » Wed Mar 02, 2005 11:31 am

Hi,

I’m going to buy a new Thinkpad X40, but I have some questions about windows and the rescue partition.

The X40 I’m going to buy will have XP pro SP2 in Swedish and I really would like to change the OS to an English version. I have an original version of XP pro SP2 Eng. but what should I do with the rescue partition? Should I remove the rescue partition or can it be adapted to a new English version of Windows? (Can I somehow change the information in the rescue partition, so it installs the English ver. of XP next time I need to restore the system?)

Maybe there is a simpler way? I know that Microsoft has a MUI (Multilingual User Interface) add-on Pack for the English version of Windows XP. But I would still need to reinstall, because I’m getting the Swedish version with my X40.

What should I do?

/Jorge

If you haven't purchase the machine yet, what about buying it from Bill, here, and having it shipped to you. I am given to understand via this forum that the international warranty may work for you. In any event, it would be US English as you desire. ... JD Hurst

I'm getting a really good price for the X40 and it's on its way already.

This is what I'd do:

Format the HDD, install the windows version I want (it can't be an IBM install meant for another TP), download and install the English version of IBM Rescue and Recovery from below.

XP Pro SP3

Thank you very much!

I will try it out as soon as I get my computer.
I really hope it works.
