Question re Internet Explorer
Question re Internet Explorer
I use Firefox 80% of the time, but sometimes I like to use IE. (I'm using Internet Explorer 7; I realize a newer version is out, but I'm using 7.) I'm wondering, why do new tabs open so slowly in IE compared to in Firefox? Am I missing a setting, or is it just the nature of the beast?
Thanks,
Tony

Re: Question re Internet Explorer
If you use IE, i suggest upgrading to version 8. I haven't used it much myself, but it doesn't seem to be slow.
Re: Question re Internet Explorer
If you are considering Internet Explorer definitely upgrade it to version 8. That version is faster than 7 in my opinion. Version 8 also gives you a little flexibility in what items you want cleaned from the caches each time it is closed. Another good improvement.

Re: Question re Internet Explorer
Thanks to both of you for the tip. Maybe I'll do that. I'm just a bit hesitant to do so, because I'm afraid it will require updating Windows. I don't do Windows updates; I'm leery of them and afraid they'll break something that's already working.

Re: Question re Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer 8 is available as a stand alone download without the need to go through the Windows Update. Keep in mind that by not using the Windows Update site you won't be getting the additional security patches for I.E.8 that have been released since it first came out.

Re: Question re Internet Explorer
Windows Update patches security holes in Windows. I have used it for many years and have had no problems with it. I would advise to use it, your notebook will be safer.Tõnis wrote:I don't do Windows updates;

Re: Question re Internet Explorer
IE8 does seem a little faster than IE6 or IE7 - but it can still be quite sluggish at times.
If you had Windows Updates turned on, you'd probably have IE8 by now, as well as all the patches to go with it. IE7 may seem slow because it hasn't been updated? Sometimes windows updates improve the performance of programs (like Vista SP1 update), but mostly for security fixes.

Re: Question re Internet Explorer
By the way, in the Automatic Updates applet in Control Panel,
you can set it to tell you about updates without automatically installing
them, and similar useful options.
