USB2.0 not working under Windows 2000 on T60p
USB2.0 not working under Windows 2000 on T60p
Installed Windows 2000 on formatted hard disk using drivers found at Lenovo and Intell. USB 2.0 works using a Pcmcia card but not on USB ports on machine - only 1.0. I am having another problem (which may be related) getting .net framework 1.1 installed.
Well by some miracle I stumbled on a suggestion to install a Hotfix Windows2000-KB835732-x86-ENU.EXE and was then able to install the .net framework and then another update supplied by Lenovo that required the framework. None of this has changed the USB status.

Re: USB2.0 not working under Windows 2000 on T60p
I visited this site and followed the instructions with results according to the description, but this did not solve the problem. USB still running at Universal (1.0) and not 2.0
Re: USB2.0 not working under Windows 2000 on T60p
Boot up a Live Linux CD like Linux Mint. If USB 2.0 fails there too the problem is hardware related, probably a bad USB sub-card or a loose or defective Southbridge on the systemboard.
Edit: I moved your post on the same topic out of sight. We don't allow duplicate/cross posting on the forums.

Re: USB2.0 not working under Windows 2000 on T60p
Sorry about the cross post, my functionaöity is somewhat limited as well.
The linux suggestion presents problems for me, but I find it difficult to imagine that I have a hardware problem. Somewhere I remember reading a similar post as mine but I was unable to do anzthing with it. That post also went unresolved at the time I read it.

Re: USB2.0 not working under Windows 2000 on T60p
I apologize, I am traveling. At the moment using a foreign language key board, just to add to the challenge. I do not have regular access to internet. It might be a week or two until I get back to this.
Now-- am I even on the right forum to get this issue resolved?
The machine ran perfectly under WinXP just before it was formatted. I have no hope to get something like a Linux boot CD under my current circumstances. Anything too geeky is just out of the question? What might my next step be?

Re: USB2.0 not working under Windows 2000 on T60p
There are plenty of people here with vast knowledge, but still, maybe not. Since this seems to be a W2K problem, why not ask on a Windows forum like www.msfn.org?Justpm wrote:Now-- am I even on the right forum to get this issue resolved?

Re: USB2.0 not working under Windows 2000 on T60p
I have not encountered this problem before, even though I have used the same methods that have been applied during this installation (T60p). The only difference is this is the first time I had to get past the SATA hard drive recognition issue (which I was able to do with help from this site). My hope is that a better bus controller driver or similar solution will resolve the matter, but my knowledge and ability at this level is at the "bumble and stumble" grade.
As far as Microsoft goes, since this problem only has surfaced with this machine, and as of July they no longer support Win2K, an answer there seems unlikely.
Below is the driver info which I copied directly from the driver.inf (oem23) currently installed
; ** Filename: ICH78USB.INF
; ** Abstract: Windows* INF Update File
; ** Intel(R) 82801 USB devices
; ** Last Update: August 05, 2009 (Version 9.1.1 Build 1016)
Perhaps i am just not using the proper driver???

Maybe you need to install the Intel System drivers?

Re: USB2.0 not working under Windows 2000 on T60p
Through simple persistence and trial & error - bumbling and stumbling ( I don’t know how else to describe it ) It looks like I’ve made some real progress.
While I still have no way of knowing whether I’ve fully resolved the matter, I have, at least, got USB2 functionality on all the external USB Ports (hubs).
I simply do not have a sufficient grasp of the relationships of the various components involved, nor do I have any knowledge of the architecture of any machine at this level. For the above reasons I am unable to really describe how I finally achieved the results.
For anyone with a similar problem, I have included information below, describing the drivers and devices involved. I got the results by reading and reading and re-reading the related text files (including “.inf” files) and reapplying efforts to update the drivers for those devices which listed driver sources or versions older than those found below. OF PARTICULAR HELP TO ME were the instructions in the Intel readme that came with the Version: 7.2.2.1007, Date: January 12 2006. Viewing the device manager “by connection”, rather than “by type”, opened a whole new world for me. I had chased many a “red herring” and more than once decided to restore my O/S (using Acronis) because I was unable to track with some of the results of my actions.
One thing is certain - that the problem was attributable to neither the machine nor the Operating system, (that leaves me).
Thank you to those who provided help. There was someone who had a similar problem, perhaps this info will be of value.
The line below finally appeared in device manager after proper driver was installed in what now appears to be the proper way.

Okay I have a question for you.
Why Windows 2000? Sure it was a great OS in it's day and one of my favorites, however it is no longer supported.
