Just wondering if anyone had the chance to try Windows FLP on Thinkpad X40...

Should run without any problems, since the full XP-Pro runs perfectly on it.

taking for granted that win FLP can run on a thinkpad X40, due the close relationship with windows XP pro, the real (undisclosed) question is:
can a X40 loaded with FLP compete with a more modern machine (i.e. X60 running XP) at least in business applications ?
Have you got benchmarks showing performance increase on the same machine switching from Xp to FLP ?
thanks

Until I saw your post, I didn't know FLP even existed.
So no, I don't have any benchmarks.
As to business apps, if you are talking MS Office, this runs equally well on an X40 as on an X60, but the X60 has a more modern CPU (C2D if you like) and a faster SATA hard disk.
This will translate in quite an advantage for the X60.
Given the above, I would not invest in an X40 with it's odd 4200rpm 1.8" hard disk.

I agree with you 100% for the X40 being quite an aged machine.
No doubts its hdd is slow and difficult to find, should you need a replacement.
But... the point is I actually do own a X40, with pentium m cpu, for me is a great little machine and I kinda used to see it lying around. Besides it was a gift...
For its time it was really a top class piece of hardware: small, lightweight, good display, featuring a premium class keyboard, noted for its extreme readability.
The tiny led light which topped the screen added an unprecedented touch of class.
Having said all of the above I was really displeased to plan a X40 retirement, that's why when I stumbled upon win FLP I realized that would be a perfect chance to give new life to my notebook.

Certainly it would be less painful to find a good second hand X60 and stop using the old X40 ...

I just sold an X41Tablet with a ZIF adapter/hard disk, see: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=90595
Fast(er) hard disks for the X4x ARE available, but not cheap.

If you can get hold of this FLP, it would certainly be worth trying.
It's supposed to fly on older hardware.

I contacted the IT guy of my company: unluckily we do not qualify for windows flp.
So I guess I'll stick with win xp, just tweaking and trying to lower O.S. requirements (maybe nlite ?).
Anyway, it was good... till it lasted.
cheers G.
