Partially Hangs after Hiberbernation
Partially Hangs after Hiberbernation
This might not be a TP problem, but since I have it only on one or two TP's and on no other machine, I wonder if someone here may have some advice for me. Here is the Problem:
DESCRIPTION OF HANG:
The TP "hangs" - but only on system centric functions AND on Microsoft products. For exaple: ALT-F4 not working, ALT-key--> Menu NOT working. Menu can be activated by mouse-leftclick only and then be used with arrow keys. Not possible to start any application or program any more (see below on how it occurs for more on starting programs).
Programs from Microsoft (i.e. Excel) do not rebiuld their content, Outlook sometimes can, somtimes cannot be terminated.
The Taskbar area (normally floating and "auto in background") not refreshing. Thickness (i have it on left border) of Taskbar will only show background picture parts as if it was in the foreground all the time. But if windwows will be drawn over that area, multiple small frame parts are shown there from the window drawn over.
Taskmanager can be invoked but gets irresposive sometimes like any other window.
When drawing the mouse into irresponsive windows, the cursor ( In that window) converts to hourglass.
Non Microsoft Apps work to a certain extend, shutting down will work only via Menu (no ATL-F4) and only by clicking into the menu area and after that using the arrow keys. Exit boxes (are you sure ...?) do show the pressed "Yes" key for very long time (multiple seconds) prior to the program doing the exit.
Some programs can be terminated using the X button right upper corner, some cannot.
Bubble Messages (like wireless rate or LAN rate) will not go away anymore but stay on the screen.
When finally shutdown windows, sometimes it works, sometimes I need to switch off the TP after several messages: In any case, shutting down takes ages, and a number of wrning boexs like "the program xyz does not react. press cancel to return to windows ..." amonst them, here are the most shown:
- SSMGR.exe - seems to be a program for Samsung printer this is ALLWAYS one of them
- TPHKmgr
- AcSvc.exe (often, not all the times)
- explorer.exe
- taskmgr.exe (often, not all the times)
SPECIAL SYMPTOMS:
From my feeling, if I try around what the problem is (switching between apps, trying to start other apps, trying to terminate non-responsive aps such as Excel), the trouble gets worse. So, sometimes when used to monitor tasks, even the taskmanager becomes irresponsive with the Window ontop and not refreshed.
Then when finally trying to shut down, also Taskmanager is in the list of programs that cannot be terminated during the shutdown process.
After startiing again, some apps throw message that files have not been closed correctly andOutlook performs a consitency check on the database when startingagain.
HOW IT OCCURS:
TP (T42) is normally used for many days without shutdown (even though it is used in a "desktop PC mode" with no transportation). In that long running period, I do sometimes hibernate, sometimes i simply switch off the monitor.
However, the problem sometimes occurs after days, sometimes only after one hibenate.
As far as I have monitored the problem (for quite some months now) it ALLWAYS occurs in the working period after a wakeup from hibernate - not directly, sometimes only after hours, sometime quickly, but I have allways had a hibernate prior to the problem.
Normally, the problem is invoked when trying to start a new program - no matter if I double click a registered file or starting it from the Taskbar. Doing that, the hourglass on the cursor will not go away anymore.
Any advice?
Thanks so much!

Re: Partially Hangs after Hiberbernation
Yeah, stop using Hibernate until you do a complete, fresh install from scratch.
Just switch the TP off when you are done.

Re: Partially Hangs after Hiberbernation
Hmmm. Quite a brutal advice ...
On that machine, the installation has been done newly only a few months ago.
Is there any insight on maybe wrong sequence of installed drivers or similar.
Anyone else had that problem and fixed it (without new install which is a nightmare with so many programs installed ...)

Re: Partially Hangs after Hiberbernation
One other thing comes to mind, check in Explorer if you have any mapped network drives active.
If so, unmap these either permanently if possible, or just before you hibernate.
Maybe that helps.

Re: Partially Hangs after Hiberbernation
Sure I have mapped drives. Not very easy to unmap them but I will tryout if that helps.
If so, I guess I will have to write a little script for hibernation ...
Will also check for the "update stuff" from GomJabbar.
Thanks for the hints!
