Getting E-Mail working

#1 Post by Rex » Wed Mar 16, 2005 11:21 am

Hi there,

I am in the process of up-grading (via dual booting) from W98se to W2k.

Have installed SP4, and IE/OE6. Can connect to the internet via the Ethernet combo card but cannot send/receive e-mails. The computer seems to be looking for a modem, which is not plugged in because I use ethernet connection.

The settings have been imported from W98 to OE6 (W2k) but it will not connect.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Rex

In the Internet Explorer settings, under Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections, make sure Never Dial a Connection is selected. Outlook Express shares this setting with IE, but review your Outlook Express Options as well. ... JD Hurst
