Vista recovery disk intall problems

#1 Post by jfenton » Wed Feb 02, 2011 4:39 pm

Hi everybody,I recently bought a R61i type 8932-it came without a harddrive & so I had shipped R&R discs from US.They are the business edition whereas the coa sticker on base says premium. The installation stalls halfway the third disk(Application & drivers recovery disc). The software vendor said the mismatch should'nt matter.Have read the posts on using R&R & followed but still unsuccessfull.Have used R&R fine recently on T43's with new harddrives.Any pointers to correct?
Further to this post the "Installing Vista" goes through it,s routine etc. but upon rebooting there is no operating sys. installed.Surely sytem files are included on the restore disk?i did a trial install of Linux Minty9 on the new harddrive & everything went well so the machine & drive seem ok.Would you believe it's in superb cosmetic condition :$40 at a recycle centre in Australia-

Regards
R61 & R61i

Hopefully someone with expertise will come along with info for you -- It sounds like the problem is using the restore disk for Business, when the original system was Premium -- Maybe someone here will know a work around -- otherwise, you will have to find the Premium disks :?

On the bright side -- Excellent deal on your machine :)
