Defragging with W2k

#1 Post by Rex » Fri Mar 25, 2005 2:19 pm

I am currently installing W2k on a dual boot.

I have run the W2k defragger which is a version of DiskKeeper Lite. I don't like it's interface and it is different from the free DiskKeeper Lite. Furthermore, it seems to leave some files fragmented, according to the report.

What about Nortons Speed Disk? Is it any better than the built-in version? In real life, does changing the defragger make any difference? Is there a defragger like the WinME verison for W2k (which I have been using under W98SE.)

Your opinions would be most welcome. Many thanks,

Rex

hello Rex,

I use O&O (a German Software Product) Defrag, that has proven its quality. You may test it for 30 days or buy immediately online.

It allows to manage the defrag process and optimize/customize procedures. It includes the possibility to organize an at boot defrag for those files that will be blocked later and works with all Windows-OS.

The link is:
I would prefer it to diskkeeper (for some other reasons, too) and to speed disk.

I use PerfectDisk. The main attraction for this product is that it runs as a service while you use the computer. I had trouble with Diskeeper using too much resource. I do not have that problem with PerfectDisk. Other defraggers may be just as good. ... JD Hurst

Many thanks gentlemen.

I have been reading about O7O and think I will give the trial version a trial.

I quit O&O because it got me into trouble before, not a major problem but never the less. A simple re-install of the apps affected took care of things.

I used Diskeeper for years, but found it buggy with XP, crashing twice and ruining my drive image.

I switched about 2-years-ago to PerfectDisk and have been delighted. It is faster than Diskeeper and far less intrusive when running in the background.

I have a question concerning PerfectDisk 7. I am thinking of buying Perfect Disk, but does it require some kind of product activation? Or, do they simply send a registration number or a registration file?
Thank you.

Up to PerfectDisk 7, they just send you a private link to the file and you download it. There has been no additional license file. I don't know about V7.1. ... JD Hurst

Thanks, JDHurst.
I just downloaded the full version and installed it. I will try to explore its possibilities.

7.0 is the latest. I don't think there is a 7.1. In any case, I also use it and think it's great. If you have the Trial and buy, thew will just send you an activation key....
